Can someone tell me the relevance of aligning the two holes (basket and pressure plate) of a 7 spring Vespa clutch when rebuilding it please..? I've read from various posts that it must be done but I'm intrigued to know why and what purpose it serves...!

I too was intrigued by this question for years, i just kept doing it. Recently i read about the reason why, apparently this alignes the corresponding spring holes. Basically when the two holes are lined up they should exactly match the spring holes....steeleyscoot wrote:Can someone tell me the relevance of aligning the two holes (basket and pressure plate) of a 7 spring Vespa clutch when rebuilding it please..? This would make sense if the two parts are machined as a pair in the factory/ machine shop. However how many pairs of the two clutch parts are still together now on old machines?
I have changed clutch baskets countless times, i am just programmed to match the bloody holes up no matter what
