Hello.

I am restoring a Vespa Rally 180, that i got in boxses. We are having problems with the clutch, when we are tightning the nut the flywheel locks so we can not turn it. We are using a washer between the clutch and crank i have tried with both 2.8 mm and 3.2 mm is there supposed to be a washer there? the clutch is orginal but i have changed the crank with one for electronic ignition that i bought from SIP. So my qustion is : is the supposed to be a washer if yes what thickness ?

regards
John

Is the bearing in straight? Does it spin with the clutch on, but not tightened? Is this happening with a flywheel on or off? Are you meshing the clutch gear into the cush drive?

I do not think the bearing is the problem. I still want to know if i need a washer, and if yes what thickness ?

100% positive a washer goes between clutch and crank. It's quite thick, 3mm or so. Same thickness as the oil metering washer gear. VBB type is the thin one, about 1mm don't use that.

The clutch arm needs adjusting further forward than you can move it with your hand. Simple trick is to tighten clamp onto cable at the spot where you can move clutch arm to with your finger, then pull clutch lever on handlebars which moves clutch arm forward. Wedge a small wrench between arm and enginecase near rear brake adjuster. This will hold arm too far forward, but it allows you to move the clamp up 5-10mm without a struggle. Simply pull lever on handlebar again to release wedged wrench and test. Rinse and repeat until you have the clutch cable adjusted where you want it, and it's working well.

I'll try to get pics if that doesn't make sense.

You also mention changing cranks for elec ignition.

Did you get a PX crank? If so did you dremel the case where the PX flywheel will be rubbing? R180 and Femsa R200 can be converted to PX crank/stator/flywheel but you have to grind a bit behind the stator and flywheel.
