I had one for a steel lined TS1 I was doing ,the quality looked very good, but I sold the kit before I did any miles on it so I don't know how it would hold up in the long run.

Used one in a TS and it went badly wrong, a friend put one in his TS and the same happened to his. Both had done under 100 miles on new bores. And both had the same problem.

What went wrong with the Beedspeed pistons? I bought the relined TS1 kit off CPH lambretta along with the Beedspeed piston. Harry Barlow ported and honed the barrel, sorted the cylinder head and dressed the piston. After 300 miles of careful running in I took it to B Race tuning for setting the carb up on the dyno. 23 BHP and 20 ft lbs of torque with a 30mm PHBH delly and SSC Taffy copy exhaust. Since dynoing I've thrashed it for over 1000 miles and it goes like a bat out of hell. So far so good, but now you've got me worried.Chris CSPE wrote:Used one in a TS and it went badly wrong, a friend put one in his TS and the same happened to his. Sorry, I should have been more clear, it wasn't the Beedspeed piston , it was the first one that Coaster asked about. They both locked up solid all round the bore, both had to have another ceramic re'line after having the bores repaired.

Ive got one in my RB240. I ve done 800 to ireland and back and done about 1500 miles in total, just about to do c2c (550miles round trip) no problems with the piston, only a bad heat seize , but that was my fault as the bore clearance was to tight
after id replaced the MB piston with it.
Mines steel linered by the way.
I have read and heard that forged pistons are better in steel bores as opposed nikasil bores ? (i think ive got that the right way round) Some thing to do with silicone content
There was a link to a kawasaki / suzuki / honda article about them ditching forged pistons and going back to cast, 20 odd years ago.
im sure an adult will be along soon to explain better than i could

Thanks for the clarification. I've been having too much fun riding the TS1 to have to start worrying that something drastic is about to happen every time I open the throttle.
One word of caution with the Beedspeed piston though is that Harry did say it needed quite a bit of dressing though before use. I've watched him do it on another piston and he uses a black scotchbrite type of abrasive pad and gently crosshatches the piston to get all of the ridges off it.
Cheers
