new clutch plates "surflex B's" on a standard 4 plate only been on for about 300 miles, standard NOS clutch springs. They were slightly over 14mm so to compensate for this used 2 thin plates - 2mm top steel and a 1mm steel with 2 standard steels on the base with the bottom cork with the "ears" bent up on a rapido 200.Took it out last night and give it some beans going up a hill revs going up and down,no acceleration staying at 50,went back home and took the sidecasing off, smell of burnt cork straight away  .Had a spare set of corks and put them in and a set of cam lam popeye arms springs, took it out for an hour to warm up ,then took it up the same hill -all seems OK,nice steady acceleration up the hill and I've seemed to have a few more mph in each gear. But what would cause these plates to burn out after 300 mile? Think I'm going to have to save up for one of rocho68/Lee's clutches.

I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.
