S3 gear selection issues.

Hi folks.
First tech post on here and i'm hoping for some advice please.
I'm coming to the end of my first lambretta (LI 125 S3 1964) resto and having real problems selecting all the gears.
She is not running yet but i've got all new clutch, springs etc and cables. It seems very tempremental with selecting gears. As i'm pushing it around the garage, it just about selects the gears 1,2,3 and neutral. If i try and select them again, it won't do it!!!
It won't go in 4th, and the clutch is really tight at the lever. Iv'e adjusted the cables as much as i can to get 1,2 + 3 but no 4th???
Is this normal. Does it need to be running/moving to select all gears or does it need a hand from the kickstart to find each gear.
Any offers please fellas as i'm stumped with this.

Many thanks.

Yes i think so mate.
I cant picture it of the top of my head (at work now) but when its in third gear the tree (outer cable) looks as if it wont physically move any further forward to find 4th if you see what i mean?
Cheers.

gear selector shaft needs moving round a spline..??
how close to the rear shock mount is the end of the tie rod ?

it will be harder to get into gear without things turning in there.
rather than pushing the scooter about, raise the back wheel off the ground and spin it by hand.
disconnect the cables, and see if you can get all the gears, then you'll know which end the problem is.

... oh and check that the gear pivot support is fitted so part of it is hanging over the casing side

Hi Byron.
I dont think the end of the tie rod is coming into contact with the shocker and preventing movement, i will check though.
should i disconnect the cables and try to get all gears just by moving the selector by hand?

By this do you mean the post that the selector sits on, fastend to the casing by 2 small bolts?

Cheers mate.
