New BGM stator and Late style AF flywheels?????

I am looking at getting a new V2, latest version of the BGM stator, to try and put an old group 4 engine on the road, but the geezer on FleeBay states 'Not recommended with later version AF flywheels'.

Why is this? Does anyone know, and how do you tell if its a later one?

I am picking up an engine tomorrow with an AF flywheel, but have no idea if it is late or early?

Any help would be much appreciated, as per...................... :frog:

I have heard there's a clearance issue, the BGM stator has at least one maybe 2 extra laminations so brings the coils a little closer to the flywheel.

ime running this set up ,you need to machine 1mm off the mag flange (were the stator fits ) and machine the ridges off for better cooling :D :D

I take it that i would have to buy one and see if its drags on the coils then?

That would be a good idea, I THINK I've read that it's the pickup that catches so provided that the coils don't catch, just removing a laminate or 2 from the area where the pickup sits might be sufficient? If not then machining the mag flange would be the only other option.

I think others have overcome the problem by using a lightened Indian flywheel instead.

PS, I have no experience with AF flywheels, just passing on what I've read on here and the LCGB site. I do know through replacing lighting coils that the BGM stators have at least 2 extra laminates which would explain why everything sits just a little bit closer to the flywheel.
