hi, just wondered if anyone is running standard gp 200 gearing with 18x47 sprockets (5:22) on a ts1 ? im currently running gp 200 gearing with 19x47 sprockets ( 4:94) 35mm mikuni & jl 3 pipe,this set up seems ok but i feel its not quite letting the kit run to its full potential. would the standard gp gearing be to "revvy" for this set up ? thanks for any info . db

Wouldn't it be your pipe holding it back, rather than the gearing? 4.9 isn't high at all.
How big is your exhaust port? Don't the JL3s benefit from having an exhaust port so big you can fit your hand in it?

i run std gp gearing in my mbd ts1 solo riding 75/80mph all the time but thats it!

I would have thought that std. GP200 gearing would be to low i:e revvy , I even think its a bit revvy on a standard GP200, my TS1 230 runs std GP200 19 x 46 which I think is just right especially solo riding. It all depends what you prefer I`m not happy screaming everywhere at 7-8000 rpm

Bang on advice , same gearing as mine , run jl3 as well and performs really well.

hi, thanks for the replys, main reason i'm asking this is because i find that i'm having to constantly change down into 3rd gear to climb hills or if there's i slight head wind ! might try a 4th gear ratio of 5:11, thanks again. db

Could be something else that's causing the problem , very rarely do i have to change down and i'm no slim jenkins!

it is a mbd tune 25hp but even with the std gearing when travelling at less than 63ish you cant accelerate without gearing down,the problem would magnify if taller gearing was used.i run for miles at 75mph!
the origional poster does not state std ts1 tune!

agreed. The ts1 was originally designed to be run with standard gp200 gearing. The fact you have changed this and now you struggle into winds / uphill suggests you should go back to standard gearing. Of course there are TS set-ups with lower final gear ratios but the real test of any set-up is out there on the road. Every engine is the sum of all its parts, tune / carb / comp ratio / jetting / timing / exhaust / gearing etc etc etc and rarely are 2 alike, so don't ignore what your set-up is telling you.

I'm pretty sure AF recommend 4.8 ratio gearing with the ts1, as it's a good
all rounder ratio, suited especially when using a jl3 pipe , which allows the power to come in earlier in the rev range . Fair enough about the rest of the parts , everything has to be in harmony . The only time i personally would use 5.2 ratio is with say a PM , jl4 revvy type exhaust which makes the power higher up the rev range.
