Already posted on another well known website, so appologies if you've read before. I've got a rear hub issue thats bugging me. I've just fitted rear hubs to 2 scoots I'm working on, both are Indian hubs (SIL I believe) and both bought at the same time from a well known and respected dealer. When torqued up to the correct figure there is a small amount of play if you grab the tyre and try to rock from side to side. Only slight but its noticable. I'm certain its not a bearing or build issue as both are newly rebuilt engines, one by me and the other built and supplied to a mate by a dealer for me to fit. Anyone experienced problems with ill fitting hubs / cones ? Or any other ideas ? Cheers.

when fitting the cone,its important to make sure the slot is placed over one of the shaft splines.............

Yeah, I'm aware of that but thanks anyway. I've built many Lambrettas over the years (too many years - lol) and cant say I've experienced this before. My heads saying its a problem with the hub taper or cone taper ? Its strange its the same on two machines ?

did you put a new layshaft needle roller bearing outer track in the endplate because some of them are a slack fit to the bearing and layshaft

Hi,i had the same problem when i built my ts1 there was always a bit of play in the rear wheel.After a while i changed the gear box for an italian and replaced the needle bearing at the same time now there is no play so i think its your bearing replace it with an INA(make of bearing) always use the best bearings.

Yes, in the one I built, my mates is a dealer "rebuilt" SIL 200 unit.

Check your splines on the layshaft to the splines on your rear hub. They do vary as much as 0.6mm, as we found when making our own.

Interesting point, thanks. Still seems a bit odd two rebuilt motors are the same. I'm leaning towards these remade hub splines being slightly wider
