I have a spare hole
So I was thinking of running a fuel gauge off the battery.
Anything I should look out for or avoid?

the gauge is the easy bit, lots of different styles to choose from. its the sender in the tank that is the tricky part to find. one on ebay for a boat application that is adjustable for tank depth seems pretty good.
not sure what sender will fit in a standard tank due to restricted room

I have also looked at the asap website and am looking to order both a fuel gauge and sender, looking at the diptype fuel they are all different lengths by cm. Which is the correct length one to buy for a standard series 3 tank?
Thanks in advance

I dunno the exact length of the STD tank u can just put a tape down the fuel cap
And measure, I use a diablo tank with a hole cut in, flat plate welded to the tank with m5 bolts protuding to bolt down the sender, easy job for anyone with basic metalwork knowledge, hope this helps?
They do all different lengths of sender just measure ur tank and get the next shortest, u shouldn't run out then,
