Not running a battery, I'd like to hook up a tach, and need to tap into a power wire in the loom. I'm thinking it's the brown wire, does that sound right?
The tach I have is a CEV piece from ebay. It has three wires and they hook up as follows I believe. Green from the tach to ground, red to power (brown?) And brown to the kill switch.
Anyone else used these?
Varitronic power wire???

No idea re tachos personally and the fact you have a variotronics again got nowt to do with your needs its the loom itself you need to be looking at.
Of course with aftermarket looms there may be some different colours etc and it's all down to who did your wiring but on my series 2 with electronic ignition its wired so that both the brown and purple in the loom have power running through them.
So, the best thing to do is get the headset off and see if you can find these in the bulbholder/junction box and suss if there is power there then splice in at that point? Less then a tenner gets you a reasonable multimeter from maplins which will be invaluable believe me.
Cant help with the tacho wiring though but I would assume one's an earth, ones to run the tacho and ones for a bulb in the dial perhaps? Could be trial and error there?

Donnie.
Loom brown will almost certainly be the correct power wire to the headset. The connection to the ignition cut out will be the pulse for the tacho, but is the tacho set up for varitronic as this gives less pulses than a standard electronic due to it being a 4 pole flywheel?
Thought the Variotronic regulator/rectifier had an extra 12v dc output/connector which could be used for power to the Tacho ect.http://www.allstyles-scooters.co.uk/Varitronic.html
Old Lambretta's never die, they get tuned..................
It does have a +12v output, but like the BGM one it will only be half wave and designed to trickle charge a battery. Any accessory powered directly from the reg/rec will only work at half power, ie lamps will be at half brightness..GP240 wrote:Thought the Variotronic regulator/rectifier had an extra 12v dc output/connector which could be used for power to the Tacho ect.http://www.allstyles-scooters.co.uk/Varitronic.html

Got it going no problem. Tapped in to the brown wire on the loom for a power wire. Took it for a quick boot and it seems to run just under 4000 rpm. I don't think it's the most accurate piece of kit! But for the price!
I'll be building a TS1 in the fall to put in next year and will probably buy a better one anyway!
Thanks for the input.
