jl 4 exhaust
hi, just wondered if anyone is or has run a jl 4 exhaust on a std ts1 ? are they any good for rally use or are they just a round town short distance pipe ? i'm also interested to know what the performance is like & what carb & gearing set-up they have. thanks in advance for any info. db 67

For what it's worth here's my opinion!
JL4 was a great pipe loved it on my stage 4 , but is a very revvy pipe , so you would have to alter gearing to let it rev out. Wether it's good for ts1 i don't know only ran mine on piston port cast iron barrel.
My experience is standard ts1 60mm crank , 30mm flatslided dellorto , gp 200 gears 4.8 ratio intially set up for touring with jl3, had the chance of a franspeed race so tryed that.
Very similar to the jl4 but power comes in earlier , better fitment , less chance to crack at the downpipe (which jl4 are renowned for) and more importantly the performance has drastically increased with none of the changing gears scenario to keep in the power.
Only downside is a little on the loud side!

"Doc Halliday" in our club does serious mileage on a standard TS with JL4, It's also his daily transport too. Gearing is standard GP200 nothing trick. It goes well both 1 or 2 up...only thing is he's now on his 4th pipe as they all keep cracking and had been welded and welded again...they're very thin skinned. As opposed to another mate whose had his same Taffy on for 10 years!
The bloody noise of these pipes has got to be because they are so thin...hence why mate likes them so much as he likes to make an entrance. Anyone who has seen his moulded skull helmet would agree ha!

Had one on a TS1225 (exh port raised), absolute animal at high revs and just revs on and on, gearing was 4.6 and would only pull 4th when i changed at 65mph then would sit at 70 all day long.
It split at down pipe so now av a PM32 Fat Mamba which pulls at lower rpm but wont rev anywhere near as high revs which to be honest I do prefer.

Old Lambretta's never die, they get tuned..................
thanks for all your replys, sounds like what i'm after but don't think i could put up with having to have it constantly welded up !!! would really like a franspeed race but can't afford £285 at the moment !! thanks again , db67
