Hi all

I recently bought a really mint LI 125 Special from a mate, and it's been running absolutely fine. Today however, I started it up and scooted off up the road, and whilst changing gear, the engine cut out. I pulled over to the curb and kicked it over again, and as soon as I turned the throttle off, unfailingly, it would cut out. I managed to get home, but had to constantly rev the scoot just to keep the engine running. The baffling thing is, she's been running fine, and was up to an hour before the trouble started. I haven't tampered with it at all, and have a tank full of fuel.

Things that might be relevant (or mightn't; I'm fairly new to the scene):

• About a week ago at the petrol station, I put too much petrol in and it overflowed. There wasn't enough room for any oil, so I used folded paper towels to soak the petrol up to make room. Could a fragment of paper towel have found its way into the carb?

• On the same petrol garage visit, I put too much oil in with the petrol. For the five litres I put in, I probably put double the amount of 2-stroke recommended.

• I recently switched the oil I use. I've been running red-coloured Castrol stuff but switched to blue (apols, I don't recall the brand).

• For the past two days, though it's been quite warm out, I've found the scooter starts better with the choke on, but I always switch if off after 10 seconds or so.

I might be clutching at at straws here. If anyone has experienced similar or knows of a possible solution, please get in touch. To reiterate, it's a mint and basic scooter that's been running fine for the six weeks I've had it. Just mystified as to why this has suddenly happened.

Hope to get some responses. Best,
Brad

sounds like you could have dragged some dirt into the carb. worth stripping and cleaning and maybe your filter in the tank as well.

The first thing to do is to drain your tank and put fresh fuelin at the correct ratio. I doubt that the filter in the tank is the culprit if it is running ok at full throttle.

I'd go with Leighs suggestion and clean the carb, it could be a blocked pilot jet.

Good luck

The original symptoms are typical of a blocked pilot jet.
