Possibly a numpty question, but is it possible to convert a points stator plate to electronic by unsoldering the points/condenser and soldering in a pick up? After all, the base plates are the same. I'd imagine all the coils are same/similar number of turns on each coil. Or am I a complete t*at  :D It's just that I have a few points stators that have seen better days and could swap good coils for fecked ones and make some decent spares. Be gentle with me   (And I'm a tight fecker :frog: :D )

The coils will be wound for 6v surely?

It is not quite as simple as you suggest, but you are heading in the right direction.

The points can be removed, one rivet drilled-out and the pick-up will slip straight on as a direct replacement. HOWEVER, the low voltage coil must be changed too as the electronic LV coil is different to the points LV coil. You may also find that the thickness of the split iron coil differs from one stator plate to the other, which might mean removing some of the laminates, or even adding some. You will also need to add a couple of wires to the loom that leads from the coils to the the main wiring loom. Oh, you'll also need an electronic flywheel and a new CDI box and somewhere to mount it.

When you have done all this, you will still have 6v lighting.

Maybe a full electronic ignition and 12v lighting kit would be a better option. Buy from a reputable dealer.

Sorry if this is a bit disparaging, but you need to know.

Thanks Martin for a clear and succinct answer. Was expecting some flak to be honest. And now you've explained it, it's obviously not worth the effort :(

ive pulled the lighting coils from a vespa stator and fitted them onto a lammy one, this worked no problem, ive also fitted a pk stator straight on with just a bit of bodgery to get it to work
