I am having some issues with my electronic flywheel and Stator on my TS1 that I think I bought from MB a little while ago.
My mate has taken my engine apart to fit a new drive side oil seal and on inspection pick ups on the stator plate are clearly worn down where the flywheel has been rubbing. I can only assume that something is not true and was wondering if there is anyone else who has suffered with this problem.
I have not seen it as yet but he says it looks really bad and there appears to be a crack in the weld of the flywheel.
stator plate rubbing issues
Could be one of a couple of problems!
First of all your flywheel may be coming away from its boss which is probs why you can see that crack in the weld.
Secondly You may of twisted your crank which is also feasable due to you having to replace your oil seal which may of blown due to the crank being out of true.
what crank is it you are using ?
I suffered this once and it turned out to be the casings being machined wrong but it was a brand new casing and the crank was checked more than three times.
A twisted crank can sometimes be trued and scooter engine services are good for the job!

if its a german 120 watt stator then the pick ups have been known to come loose and touch the magnets.
the two I know of did not have araldite on the fixing screws like the indian ones have so had shaken apart and the pick up welded to the flywheel

From memory it's an modified Indian one from Broadhurst.
The engine was taken apart as we thought the oil seal was blown but on inspection the seal appeared ok my mate tells me there is a gasket that was shot and oil could have been getting through that way.
If I had a twisted crank would I not get some indication of this in another way ?

Twisted crank can give you a lot of vibration frough the scoot!
While its out get your mate to see if he can tell if its in line by eye or send it off to be checked!
Or as cezeta says check the pick up hasn't become loose too!
I hope its a simple and low cost answer you find good luck!

I am no mechanic by any stretch of the imagination but my mate knows his stuff and does not think it's the crank, there was no excesive vibration or anything else for that matter.
Just wondered if this was a common occurence or not really, in fact I have an Imola egine in bits with the same guy and he has looked at that an says there is some rubbing of the pick ups but nothing like as bad.

Is this an Li/Sx crank and flywheel, or is it a GP set up ? I would have guessed GP on a TS but just checking...

If by pick ups you mean the coils (lighting and LT) or do you mean the black pick up box, any way if its the coils I've had a couple of times from the rivets that hold the flywheel boss on the easiest cure I've found is to take the mag housing off and get 0.5mm machined off the inside where the stator plate sits
While crank is out definatley get it checked for alignment.
