All depends on what clutch sprocket you are using - a chain can be removed from around a 46T clutch but not a 47T.vicvega wrote:I've lent my tools to someone, clutch compressor etc, so need to know if I can change a front sprocket without removing the clutch?
Removng a front sprocket can be done by undoing the front sprocket bolt then the pull the sleeve off the crankshaft splines, if fitting a 16T in place of a 15T the chain needs to be stretched enough to fit, if using 17-46T then an 81 link chain is required.
Fitting 19-46T in place of 18-47 wth 82 link chain then you need to get the clutch out!
To stop the clutch turning use a wooden hammer shaft into the clutch sprocket/chain so as to undo the front sprocket bolt.
Hope this has helped, next time don't lend out your tools unless you know they will be returned quickly!

PS I just noted your ID vicvega - if doing this with a vega disregard the above except for locking the clutch to undo the front sprocket bolt.
