Is this GP Electronic flywheel wrong?

I received this Elemec lightened flywheel late yesterday so couldn't get hold of the dealer I bought it from.

I know that the trigger marks on these flywheels are not gospel and that you have to strobe them but when I offer the flywheel up and line the trigger points up with the pick up on the stator, the ^ firing point on the flywheel is at about 50 degrees before TDC_____ no amount of stator fettling is going to resolve this issue.

These photos show the problem. The smaller flywheel is a light AF flywheel which I've been having problems with at over 6000 revs but it does work and the trigger point generally lines up with the ^ on the flywheel, and the firing point:

The screwdrivers are pointing to the trigger points. If you compare the position of the keyways, they are in the same position. So far so good.

This photo is the other side. Again the screwdrivers are the trigger points. The pencils, however, point to the ^ firing point on the flywheel. As you can see these are miles out if you compare the two.

Before I send this Elemec flywheel back can someone just confirm that i'm not missing something blindingly obvious please :D

As long as the pick up magnets and key way slot are in the correct position relative to each other then no other marks matter. The flywheel arrow in a different place will not be a problem as long as you redo your TDC/timing marks to the arrow on the flywheel you're using.

Kev, so I should:

1. line the trigger point marks on the flywheel with the pick up,
2. mark a new arrow on the flywheel to correspond with 18 degrees (in this case) BTDC,
3. Then strobe it to that?

Paul

PS, I suppose this is exactly the same as continuing to use the arrow on the flywheel but strobing it to a new mark on the mag housing that'll be somewhere around 50 degrees before TDC

What I would do is-
fit the flywheel and, with the piston at TDC, put a new arrow onto the flywheel to correspond with your TDC marking on the mag flange. Then using the new arrow rotate the flywheel to your 18 degree mark, check pick up marks and move stator if necessary to align, then strobe.

Cheers, Kev. All sorted now and working fine. I seem to have missed the simple point that the new flywheel would move the TDC point on the mag housing
