Rear Hub Studs on Tubeless Rims
I'm looking at the SIP ones and AF ones, both look OK but do I have to change the rear hub studs with any of them? It's Servetta hub.
they need to be longer dont they? mbd make a set too.
I've heard something like that but before I get the hub powder coated I might want to take the studs out etc and need to know if i need longer ones.cezeta wrote:they need to be longer dont they? mbd make a set too.
Was told the Af ones fit fine and the SIP need work?

SIP ones fit fine too, but they come with longer studs which you'll need to change on your hub.
SIP made the centre section of the rim much thicker so that they could make the well deeper in order to get tyres on and off easier but that meant that they had to make longer studs to offset the thickness of the rim centre.
Swings and roundabouts really.

You'll need to file a little off the stud lugs for the Spanish hubs to take SIP rims, I'm not sure about AF rims. Better to try the wheel rim on your hub before coating

Turn On, Tune In, Cop out!
I had to do this for my SIL hub as well.soulsurfer wrote:You'll need to file a little off the stud lugs for the Spanish hubs to take SIP rims, I'm not sure about AF rims. Better to try the wheel rim on your hub before coating
This is worth knowing thanks but having to get the file out again to make parts fit is still annoying.soulsurfer wrote:You'll need to file a little off the stud lugs for the Spanish hubs to take SIP rims, I'm not sure about AF rims. Better to try the wheel rim on your hub before coating

Maybe, but there's a really good reason that requires this, but its worthwhile IMOLamaddict wrote:This is worth knowing thanks but having to get the file out again to make parts fit is still annoying.soulsurfer wrote:You'll need to file a little off the stud lugs for the Spanish hubs to take SIP rims, I'm not sure about AF rims. It's the norm for parts not to fit after powder coating, especially parts that have fine tolerances to start with. If it's a snug fit before powder coating then it probably wont fit after powder coating.Lamaddict wrote:
