Pretty sure Beedspeed sell cush drive repair kits. Comes with plates, springs and rivets. I have stripped one of my old P2 motors to find the back plate chewed up and in bits at the bottom of the gearbox. It must have been a pig to ride with the springs all broken..

Nope the smaller springs aren't a bodge that's the way they come from the factory:

the repair kits are about a fiver. the 2.5mm drill bits will cost you 20 quid though, as they snap at the mearest hint of pressure. best getting a 2mm punch, and trying that after the heads of the rivets have been ground down. it doesnt matter how good/bad looking the plates are after fitting, as long as they are tight down, and the rivet heads dont catch anything. they are a pain, but easyish if you have a pillar drill. just budget 30 quid for bits, as in parts, and drill bits, and a gasket set, and it"ll be near the mark.

If you centre dot the rivets then use a 6mm drill bit to just drill the heads off leaving the rivet to be punched out you will avoid snapping small bits.Don't worry about damaging the tin plates as the kit has new ones in it and once assembled with the new rivets in place I peen their heads slightly to hold them in place then use a vice to finally crush them flat and tight.

Another thing I should have mentioned is a long punch may bend if the rivets are tight so I have a punch that is only 1cm long after the grip as it won't bend.Once the rivet is out a bit use a vice to twist it out.
