well the malossi has been on the road a couple of weeks, 30mm carb, jl (sip) RH pipe, augusto 6000, light flywheel, 5 plate welded Cosa clutch, ported cases blah blah . gans like f@@k, no pinking (thanks to the augusto) shows 80mph on the old style P200E speedo, and sits at 65mph up hill and down dale, and 60mph into the really strong winds we"ve had up here this week, starts first kick, and does 75miles to the standard tank. but, i dont think its what i"m after. ive had a few malossis before (and probly why i dont want this motor) and they got on my tits by being revvy as f@@k. ive got a very good polini (new style )top end , an MDP barrel with a MAHOOSIVE exhaust port and a malossi piston to fit it, and various P200 barrels, from a Rally barrel, a top and tailed p2 disc barrel, and a spanish DS 200 barrel, that has bigger exhaust and transfers, as standard. so i"m thinking of doing a standard barrel, carb (ive got a 24 and a 26 in the box SI ), and the JL right hand pipe. the DS barrel is favorite at the moment. or should i go Polini?

Talk to Rab (Polossi 220) over on SBW, his bike goes well even given he's about as aerodynamic as an 8' x 4' shed.

Truth told it's a lot of work now that Polini are using a decent piston again these days. Fair enough if you like playing for playings sake.

I know exactly what you mean about the Malossi. The last one I had was set up well and was fast, but as you say, after a while they just get on your tits! I ended up selling the 210 kit and going Polini. This was much more of a pleasure to ride. I even ditched my Taffy pipe and used a genuine Piaggio exhaust. Nice and grunty.

The engine I'm putting together now will be based around a ported BGM top end, similar to the set up you are thinking of. But if I had another complete new style Polini kit to hand, I would probably use it over the BGM if I had the choice.

i ended up with the majority of this scooter, and brand new malossi, pipe ,carb, etc, for buttons, all brand new, the guy lost interest, and for 450quid, it was hard to pass up, so its a motor that ive inherited, rather than a spec i would have done for myself. malossis, yeah, they go like f@@k, but i do long haul rallies quite often, and the screaming shite at 65-70mph just gets on me wick. i might pop the polini 207 0n tomorrow. remember, this is also my work scooter, "why have you got a tuned scooter for work?" 8-) and ive got a funny rear end snaking above 60mph, either a nacked shock , or f@@ked wheel (all brand new bits, so an examination tomorrow) won on the national anyway.......................... 8-)
