curiosity question if i may? i,ve gotta harry barlow standard barrel-piston+head stage4 top end, cut crank, 24/24 carb, jl pipe, performs quite well 14bhp...
1, anyone put a reed valve on a harry barlow top end
2, in general figure'wise if you can the gains bhp from standard carb to reedvalve on any tune....
cheers for any input.......gadge!

My T5 had a reedvalve on but wasnt done properly ie casings not ported crank not cut and was just under 15hp Diablo had it and sorted it now 18 hp

providing you do the bottom properly. you will loose a small amount bhp but gain a shed load of torque !
and it will pull better low down the rev range.

MMMMM Not sure about that. Theres a lot of work there for not much if any gain.
T5s do seem to like reedvalves not so sure if that correalates to p2 motors.
Don't forget the reed is an obstruction it won't always give more power especially over something that works as well as the Vespa rotary valve. Using a carb to big for it will probably negate any bottom end gains you might get. Also don't forget the huge amounts of material out of the crank and casing you'll need to take out to get the reed flowing right.
Saying all that the DRT type he seems to be developing which looks similar to the LML ie using a std carb may well be of benifit.
If your suffering from low down power experiment with an augusto. Also with compresion ratios.
I would save the money from the reedvalve and buy a 60mm crank-the gains you will get in port time area will more likely outweigh any gains you get from a reed and it will have much better manners.
I found that the stage 4 with an expansion needed much reduced compression. You will find as you reduce the compression the jetting will come down as well and you will gain more from using the augusto.
Despite the higher peak horse power figures gained from using an expansion these kits are much better with a sito+ simmonini, pinasco etc imo.

Ye! dead right there about compression, pipe and augusto, it has an augusto on of which certainly boosts bottom end and the siminini was the better pipe of the bunch, But i wanted me JL on, which meant i had to reprofile the head 13.5:1 to stop it pinking, of which out performs the siminini punch'ier and torque'ier I've found...
thinkin about the reedvalve they were t5's i've had a go of and they were pocket rockets,...
thanx for the replys....
