Have a 150 small block casing in excellent condition that I would like to build up as a spare, but didn't come with an endplate  Now I know these are machined at the same time as everything else normally. But is there any way of getting as best a fit going by the engine/casing number. I don't want to go through ordering several to get one that suits/fits my casing correctly and all the hassle that could be involved with ordering and then having to send back to supplier. Any help appreciated. :?

are you talking Italian or Indian Good Looking? When i built my 225 up Indian casing, i used an Italian endplate without the built in kickstart ramp and that fitted perfectly. Might be of some use

ive never had a problem ....i usually fit the layshaft bearing then the bare layshaft and tighten it up then offer an end
plate into position and if it fits nicely then thats it ..... might not be the correct way but ive never had any probs i use li endplates without the ramp

you need to make sure it lines the layshaft straight as some have upto 5mm difference

Something else to look out for!
I did exactly this earlier on in the year, fitted a non matched end plate to a Sil 200 case.
All looked well, gearbox turned freely everything good or so I thought.
Came to even out the height of the front sprocket and the crown wheel and found that on measuring down from the casing gasket face the crown wheel was sat crooked.
9 oclock was 1mm lower down from the gasket face than 3 oclock so clearly the gear cluster was leaning towards the back of the engine.
This would in my opinion brutalise the chain and probably the gears in no time.
Had to try 4 or 5 before I found one I was happy with.
I guess what I'm trying to say is if you try this then don't assume that just because the gearbox spins freely and everything looks OK that it is.
Incidentaly I used a flat bar sat across the casing gasket face and measured down with a vernier gauge onto the flat part of the teeth on the crown wheel(as suggested in Sticky manual)
Surprised me
Hope all this makes sense
