Hello there,
could I have some advice please on running in a basic refurbed engine. It's a 150cc steel liner cylinder very mildly ported with alloy piston putting out about 6 bhp at 6000rpm. The original owners manual I've got says to not exceed 15/25/50 km/h in 1/2/3 gear for the first 1000 km with a fuel mixture ratio of 8% dropping to 7% when run in. Is this necessary, as it's basically a 20/30s design, or will I get away with 4%? Also should I use mineral oil and why and what oil for the gearbox?
I'm new to all this and don't want to knacker my engine, after a few years getting to this point and considerable expense with minimal spares availability.
Thanks,
Joe

If you're going on the original owners manual, I'd say that with the improvement in modern oils, you should be able to run in on 4% safely. Personally, I'd use the same running in technique as for a Lammy mileage and speed wise. As for the gearbox oil, can't you check on a Peugot forum for advice? There must be some others out there. What type of clutch is it? If similar corks to Lambretta, then I would have thought ST90 would be OK, but best to check first. Good Luck with it, all the same. ;)

Cheers, I am a member of the French owners site but can't get on there as I've forgotten my username/password too many times and the bloke who runs the site doesn't know how to unblock my ip address.
