clutch side oil seal

with the big metal seal tapped in flush to casing now the bearing is stiff to turn is it fitted wrong or will it free with use

and i thought lammy engines were a bugger to work on.

soundz like the clutchside bearing is,nt home proper, you have put seal lips facing crank web, is seal pushed up against bearing....

will have to check tomor,but i seem to remember that the seal was very close to the bearing.

you dont say whether you`ve changed the bearing so if you havent its a seal issue and if you have and if the seal side circlip is in and the seal is flush that should be it. sometimes the seals dont sit flush
once the seal side circlip is in the bearing doesnt want to go any further. be careful not to knock it to far.....
stick at it best of luck
must be something in the air i`ve just stripped mine tonight due to a clutch side oil seal failure - still it was an opportunity to do all new bearings, seals, cruciform and clutch plates ... casings in the parts cleaner tomorrow and rebuild tomorrow night

well i must be mad couldn`t get sleep so i went into garage and had a look at the bearing and noticed tha its not sitting flush to the other side of the case there`s a gap, prob heat case tomor and knock bearing in upto the case

well not been able to sort it tnight,saw dad in hospital,so will do it tomorrow and no i didn`t put the bearing in it was like that when i bought the scoot, that might av been the cause of the seal leaking rubbing on the inner part of the bearing

How did the circlip fit if the bearing wasn't flush mate? Have a good look and check everything has been done properly as the circlip shouldn't fit unless the bearing is seated properly.
The seal touching the bearing is a common problem so much so that Harry Barlow has made a tool to compress the seals slightly so they cant touch. Don't leave it like that the bearing should spin unimpeded and you will have problems if it doesn't.
The seal needs to be fitted with loctite. Bearing retainer is best 638 or 648.

thanks Diablo for the info,when i looked behind the bearing i noticed that there was a slight gap prob a couple thow and the circlip was in ok and the bearing was turning ok, but when i put the new seal in flush it must have touched the centre of the bearing causing it to be stiff to turn,when i put the crank through it turned ok so i took it out damaging in the prosess now waiting for a new seal to arrive...OH THE JOY`S OF SCOOTERING

Is Loctite 'Thread Lock' adequate for holding the metal type oil seal in place.
