im currently building a competition lambretta sprinter and would like some veiws on making a air or electric solenoid gear shifter that would be able to move the 5 places back and forward to cover the lambretta gearbox , many sprinting bikes already use air shifters but these only move the one click up or down to operate the bike gearbox , the bike ones also kill the ignition as changing gear so no need to shut off the throttle thus allowing for much quicker gear changers is this feasible with lambretta stators , i have already made up a motorcycle type gear rod with 2 rod ends fitted to a lambretta gear arm just need some kind of shifter now.

there is a way round this ...it involves the use of a motor cycle gear index wheel and gear change shaft attached to a pully wheel in a remote "box" and two sets of half length cables

replace gear lever with your air shift and away you go

thanks for the replys ,i would like to do away with the hand or foot gear changing and be able to have 2 buttons on the handlebars for going up and down through the gearbox , i have seen on some computer controlled woodworking machines air operated piston rams that moved set distances back and forwards and maybe this is were the answer could be , but ideally electrical rams would make this a lot easier.

Something like this could really take out some of the hand strain involved in heavy clutches and gear changing what with faster changes and less hand movement whilst holding in the clutch.
