I have an SX150, all original engine with no mods other than a 175 top end & a 12v.

Everything has been fine up until a week ago, I start it, engage the clutch & then it just jumps forward then stops completely.

I changed all the cables over today thinking that would solve the issue but it hasn't.

Any ideas?

Clutch problem.

1) clutch cable not adjusted correctly
2)problem with clutch cable itself
3)clutch lever (handlebar end) problem- ferrule pulled?
4)clutch itself faulty- plates sticking/ jammed?

If you pull in the clutch and THEN try to kick it over, does the engine turn?

Thanks Chris,

1) What is the correct adjustment & how do you know if its correct? Note, I have a new MD adjuster block that I have been waiting to put on when I do the engine rebid, might do this before the rebuild.
2) Changed all three cables over, but will re check that all are tight
3) Lever is fine
4) Have not opened the engine up to check that yet, last resort!

I'll have to check the other later tonight when I get home from work.

At the handlebar end, there should be some free play between the lever and the alloy housing.

The old WSM states "1/16 inch". Basically the cable must not be tight so that the clutch slips all the time.

In your case, it would appear that the cable is too slack, so the clutch is never allowed to operate correctly.

Have you tried kicking over the engine with the clutch pulled in?- does the K/S then go straight to the floor with little resistance, or does the engine still turn over?

When you pull the clutch in and try the KS it turns over normally!

Then your clutch cable is too slack and needs adjusting. When you've adjusted it, also make sure the clutch operating arm is at right angles to the engine block.

All fixed, I ended up replacing the adjuster block with an MBD one i bought a while ago for my Li.

Cables all nicely fitted and the problem has gone away.

Thanks to all for the help. :fb:
