Need help , i took my kickstart off to cut a bit off as it was catching on the exhaust, i then put it back on, went to kick it over and all it did was keep slipping and not engaging. so drain oil took crankcase off ,put new piston and spring in kickstart shalfed then had a look at the first gear which move back and forth so when kickstart is trying to engage first gear is moving away from it, no movement on back hub neither. any help sorting this out would be good thanks

gearbox out,, on top of the first gear is a big washer, called the shim, you need to replace it with a thicker one, they come in increments of .20mm thicker up to 3.00mm, put the next thickest one in replace end plate check for movement, if its still loose put next thickest in etc etc untill its a snug fit,, not too tight or it will lock up.. sounds like you need a new bearing that sits on top of the layshaft as well judging by the amount of travel you have.. good luck

There is a correct shimming tolerance of 3-11 thou from the under side of the gearbox end plate and the top of the first gear,be careful as if its too tight then the rear wheel will bind .
