Am I right in saying that as long as the cam matches the shoes, ie Li cam and Li shoes, that the hub should fit regardless of type of hub.
Series 2, have fitted new Li shoes (with Li cam) but cannot get the hub (which is a SIL hub) back onto the layshaft. Presumably just need to take a bit off the brake surface.
Thanks

there is a tool for skimming shoes but these are quite rare ,the hub should go on but the lining varies in thickness hence your problem

Understand it's good practice to chamfer the leading edges of new brake shoes anyway. Once you can get the hub on, take it off again, and run a piece of chalk around the surface of the new brake shoe. Refit hub and turn it round a few times whilst applying the brake. Remove hub and you will see any areas where the the hub hasn't made contact with the shoes. These are low spots, so remove a little at a time the areas where the chalk was removed. Keep retrying until you know the shoes are making good contact all round with the hub.

Thanks for replies. The shoes are Newfren and are champhered at the leading edges. Problem is the hub will not get on the splines at all.
The set of shoes I took off look little different in terms of wear yet the hub fits fine. It could be a very fine margin and a little sanding will do.
Tell me this, how far down does the brake surface wear before the shoes need replaced? As I say, the raised brake area of the new pads is little difference from the old ones.
Might be that the old shoes are okay and I just need to release some cable from the pedal and move the brake arm back a notch of two.
