Is there really any point in having one?? Later Injun ones had holes drilled in 'em, so no point really!! And without one, would you get better cooling to the downpipe? Discuss

personally i don't bother with them ..extra weight and all that

seriously though i cant see the point as they don't really keep much crap off the motor and cooling can only be better for it ,unless you want originality

The trike doesn't have a splash guard - full stop. I have put a front mudguard on to protect the hand brake parts from the worst of the road crap. As for better cooling of the down pipe? The trike engine is sideways, so the barrel and head point to the side, not forward. I have fitted an air box scoop on the bottom of the cylinder cowl, having cut a crescent shape hole in the cowl , points forward, air flows well through the scoop, cools the down pipe nicely.

Isnt it good to keep the heat in the downpipe anyway?

they're designed to stop the exhaust rusting,or at least slow it down,so yes for me everytime.
unless you're using a stainless expansion

AND, some of the stainless splashguards look super with something cool cut into them. Like Lambretta or TS1.

yes during winter months to stop rain / muck , no in summer months helps with engine cooling.

yeah the exhasut gases should be kept as high temp wise as possible in the pipe so cooling of this is a no no. i believe this is why you see pipes on some cars/bikes wrapped in heat guard bandages...

So why do motorbikes have a ring of extra cooling fins around the exhaust downpipe where it exits from the cylinder  :?:

most air cooled lambrettas suffer from cooling problems so i dont believe in wrapping the exhaust to keep as hot as possible , most exhaust wrap on cars is used to keep heat out of the engine bay.
