px200 gear change not nice
1989 spanish iris model, just finishing running engine in since i rebuilt it. 800 miles ago totally standard motor even exhaust, fitted new cruciform, seals bearings and cosa clutch, runs perfectly but gear changes from 2nd to 3rd are very crude and un smooth as if the 3rd cog is spinning and the cruciform is crashing into it bluntly with a real definition.,, at very slow speed its better and if i thrash it in 2nd and then change fast it is better but when you average riding it just feels annoyingly crude, ive had a few p-range 200,s that were similar in the past, has anyone came accross this??? dont really want to just put up with if its just a case of replacing the gears which i do have another set, but the gearbox in engine did look mint, so dont want to pull apart and replace gears if somone out ther says that all p 200,s do that??? any ideas??? ive had a few 125,s that were smooth as f@@k in the gears..?
[quote="wack 63"]Did you have the gears off the layshaft and could have got 2nd or 3rd wrong way around? Is the cruciform tight on the push rod and the selector box shaft and spring ok?[/quote
deffo all correct as i initially did exactly that with 2nd and 3rd gear as you say,so i pulled it apart and rectified it,have since done 700miles trouble free, it dont slip out of gear or nowt, just crude between 2nd 3rd, could be that it will get better as cruciform gets a beatin and looses its sharp edges, but i would like to get it spot on if atall poss, maybe i will try another gearset if i get time??? cheers
