Sorry to jump on this thread but is a gp 150 gearbox any good for a tuned scooter? I've heard the gap between 3rd and 4th is quite big.

I've run an SX150 box (46/17 sprockets) on a tuned SR190, 28ml carb, and clubman for a couple of years. It's been fine on this. In my experience, you get used to the box and ride accordingly______quick and fast through the gears but maybe that's just the way i like to ride :D .

I'm just doing a rebuild on the engine and will be fitting a fresco. My experience so far has not told me that I need to go to the expense of changing the gearbox.

For a lot of road scoots, it's OK. If you're running a race bike, or anything approaching TS1 performance with an expansion then, yes, I think you'd need to think about another gearbox. Hope this helps ;)

To answer the original post, I can vouch for a 125 Special gearbox (same as GP125) with 47/18 sprockets. This gives GP 200 gearing and I've run it for several thousand miles on both a 175 conversion and a 186 Mugello with a Clubman and various carbs from 20 to 28mm.

125 boxes are very good............also.
sx150/gp150..............will of course benefit a lot from any extra cc above 175..............
the added CC and possible tuning/or just a better kit.........will provide more power/torque ,which would enable you to cope better with said box..................
having said that............they would still benefit lots from a better box.............. :D

So what about a SX 200/TV 175 gearbox then, i've heard these are good for tuned motors with the correct sprockets which i suppose is to ease the big jump from 3rd to 4th, any opinions or advice on the sprockets. What about 46/16?

Pacemaker with 15 x 46 should work well on a 175. SX 200 box will be too tall with 15 x 46 never mind 16.
