This must have been covered before but I can't find it. When I turned my original 63 Li frame upside down, large flakes of rust dropped out of the top of the frame tube. This is rather alarming as the outside is solid with very light surface rust but no rot anywhere. Without getting a medical endoscope it imposible to see the real condition of a Lambretta frame, but big flakes of rust don't make me feel good.

Has anyone come across this and what's the best course of action?

other than puting waxoil down it i dont think theres a great deal you can do ,water really shoulnt have been getting in there that much so i wouldnt expect if to be very bad

As Above....... waxoyl down it.............that will stabilise any rust forming....

You may find that there are drain holes in the bottom of the frame (my Injun Vijai has two), so you could put Waxoyl in the frame until it leaks out the drain holes.

You could treat it with phosporic acid first then with waxoyl. The acid will get rid of any loose scale.

put some gravel in the frame and strap to a cement mixer

Make sure the drain holes are clear, one just behind the rear brake pivot and the other is just behind the engine mount.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I'll waxoil it for now, then acid dip it just before I finally get round to a re-spray, followed by waxol again. There's no drainage holes, so any water has just sat there. In the past I've seen images of frames from Vietnam snap in half and had that going round my head lastnight!

You may have drain holes, but their blocked up/been sprayed over. I'd check first.
