I'm hearing a lot about this longer con rod lately. Everybody seems to be doing them. What's the big deal? Is it the same sort of thing as the TV length con rod, which was reputed to give you a smoother ride?

It doesn't make any difference. I still didn't understand it.
In layman's terms please.

In layman's terms please.

differen rod lengths is to make use of different pistons or to alter a pistons position in relation to port timings ,a tv has a longer rod simply because the piston pin is higher up than a piston from a li sx ect

Ah; so it's a question of achieving the appropriate port timings given the size and availability of a particular piston? So in other words the longer rod is the only way they could arrive at the correct balance for the TV175? I think I'm beginning to grasp it now.

Con rod length can and indeed does affect an engines performance.
con rod length affects the leverage on the down stroke.

I did get that it was less stressful on the crank if you have a longer con rod. Would it be better for the longeivity of an engine?

I,m buying a new crank 60mm to run a mugello 200, so given the choice to help engine performance should i buy one with a 110 mm rod???????
Am i correct to say i,d need a 4mm packin plate, the port timings are INLET 140
TRANS 126
EXHAUST 167
Also would it be advisable to raise exhaust port 1mm and widen its only 42mm and remove 1mm from piston skirt to advance inlet more, will be running an MB profiled head to suit the std muggy piston ,,not sure of the comp ratio yet.
So does the above set-up make sense,,,,,,,,,,,BEFORE I DREMMAL
