however now cant work out the best way to approach profiling the cylinder head to match the piston
please help a novice on a lathe
also what is the best way to hold a cylinder to top and tail it
Dave, i am a joiner and the simplest thing for you to do is to buy a "Moulding Comb" from a good tool shop....it looks exactly like a comb but it is double sided...so when you push the comb onto the top of your piston the needle parts form the shape of the crown.....but the opposite side forms the opposite shape...then draw the opposite shape around a piece of card or ali and then cut it out....with a suitable curved tool in the toolpost on the lathe gently ease out where you need to and repeatedly offer up the card until it`s correct or alternatively if the comb is not too large you can directly offer the comb to the head direct until it fits.......this the only way i can explain with a keyboard........Hope it helps?.....davidblythe wrote:however now cant work out the best way to approach profiling the cylinder head to match the piston
