i bought a 200 motor that had a single circlip layshaft
i bought a new layshaft and put them gears on it its shimmed ok but soon as i attatch the selector box it wont go into 4th gear properly so pops out of gear at high revs
if i slacken off the selector box it goes into gear all the way
tried 3 selector boxes and still same result

its baffled mi as ive done this loads of times and no issues

I thought that the batwing notches were slightly different between the two layshaft styles, causing you to have to use efl with an efl selector box, and proper shaft with the original box.
I know I had the same problem with mine, the gears were notchy and grabbing when going into fourth. I switched to a known efl box unit and it wasn't perfect, but better.

I think that the throw distances on the layshaft are somehow different, aligning the gears slightly differently for each style. I can't see how it could be different in my mind, but...
