Is it possible to use a smaller gauge wire to make a loom and if so what would it be? I only need 4 wires to headset but it's a custom build so short of space for a normal sized loom.

Use modern thinwall cable, thinner but carries a higher load.

yes, use some thinwall cable from somewhere like Vehicle Wiring Products. the 1mm cable can carry 16A iirc. generally the wires in lambretta looms don't have enough strands for the size they are, good example of that are ignition switches; chunky, and brittle, insulation with just a few strands of wires within... everything you don't want in a cable...
beat me to it kev, good that you concur
