What are people's thoughts on cutting and welding the clip on Studs that fix around drum links? I mean basically remove the lips and weld the flat plate into place on the link?

Has anyone tried this before?

I think you maybe right there mate. They look pretty naff as standard too though! I was thinking of taking off as much metal plate as poss' to allow just a small base plate to be welded to link, but wasn't sure about the strength of the weld.

What might work better is to get some remade MBD ones and drill and tap them into your drum links and then weld them on as well. They might not stick out far enough so you could also tap some rod stock and weld that on and then screw in the studs. Hell, you could probably make them look almost OG. Welding on the clamp on mounts would look like a big pile of frozen melted poop.

best thing is to have some round bar welded to your links this looks far neater and looks near stock ....do you need someone to do this???

Give Shocky a shout, he's converted loads of drum links, but ideally you need to start with Italian links.

My links are early Indian GP, does it make a difference?

If the spindle on the existing clip on plates was ground off with just a small fixing base left to weld it on, then this would be almost the same as welding on rods and having them threaded wouldn't it?

They aren't gonna be going on any "looker" anyway...just that I've got 2 pairs of clip on studs, some forks with brackets on and some dampers all sat doing nothing.

Will give it a whirl and see, unless there's good reason on strength of welds not to?

Cheers all!

they are, shocky has done me a couple of sets. Superquick turnaround too. Are those ones momentarily cooling in the box before you wrap it and get in back in the post...?
