.having trouble getting the pic on but trying to establish if a small bit of metal missing from the left side of the crank opening will affect the running of the engine.

Interestingly i have a casing with the same damage. I was thinking about removing the whole piece. Any opinions on this?

However, looking at the top right stud hole area,I think that looks a bit iffy. Looks like small screwdriver marks or something going all the way across the gasket area, which may cause an air leak. Also, what is that white line near the bottom right stud hole?
Also seeing a lot of swarf in the stud hole. They should be cleaned out and tapped before putting the studs in I would say.
Not trying to be picky, just saying to be on the safe side.

Not worried about the swarf as i'd just been opening the transfer areas up when i noticed the part in question and hadn't cleaned up

, but will take a look at the white line you mentioned although i'm sure its nothing too serious, thanks for pointing it out though

I checked the white line, it's a light scratch that looks worse because of the flash, i will remove that and flat the whole thing before assembly

Good job. She looks a little beat up.
Not being an expert by anymeans, but I would reckon you don't want to take off too much, unless you want to.
