I need a 66mm pisotn with thin rings. Its going in a low rew st type engine. I want to pay as little as possible. Will the 30£+- priced pistons sold on ebay do the job? Any experiance?

I have no experience of them but if as you say, it's going in a low tune engine then I would imagine it'll get the job done. Make sure there's at least 3.5 thou clearance and get the barrel honed if not.

I'd be inclined to go for a "Mahle" from Scooter Restorations:-
http://www.scooterrestorations.com/lamb ... -assembly/
Used them many times with no problems at all (even running 3 thou clearance)

If money allows you can buy a 66mm Asso for about £60, a better bet IMO.

if they are the same as the cheapo indian pistons with crap brittle rings, made of cheese, that are doing the rounds of late, steer clear. buy a Mahle from scooter restorations for 40 quid . saving ten quid is daft really. the rings will last five minutes on the cheap job. mahle are ok really, for standardish motors. i used to make the piston rings for Mahle, and their tolerances were up there with the best of them.

How are suppliers/shops over there as far as supplying the correct rings? I seem to have very liitle luck this side of the pond getting the correct rings, shops only want to sell complete pistons.

generally ok mr.lopez. everything , even oversizes for most popular set ups , the english dealers stock, or if they dont, will split a piston kit to give you the rings if you know the right people. scooter parts dealers get slagged off, but most well known ones are scooterists as well, and just want to see people on the road. i suppose its more difficult stocking stuff your side of the pond. people have a moan over here, but really, its dead easy to get anything you want, usually in 24-48 hours. AF RAYSPEED.. 40 miles away, andy francis... 80 miles away... beedspeed 70 miles away.. motech ... 35 miles away. couple of local auto shops for cables and oil etc (1 mile away!) and a car auto shop i have trade account with for 2 stroke , bulbs , bodywork stuff etc. 200 yards away!
