I think you should at least invest in a new nut for the rear hub.

I did! It unfortunately had the wrong thread height so it wouldn't go on. Didn't know they could be different!

Although I did buy a new rear wheel nut. I realised it wouldn't go on the layshaft. Didn't want to damage anything so I left it as is and used the old one. That one went on without a hassle.

Are they to different thread pitch on the layshafts? Mine is an original innocenti one, on the 1962 TV S3.

Anyone?

Not supposed to be, but I have exactly the same issue with mine. I've had three new nuts from a variety of suppliers and none of them will catch the first thread on the layshaft. Th old one goes on by hand no problem.

Apparently the layshaft thread ( m16x 1.5) is the same as your shock mount so to test it, try to run the nut onto the shock mount, both old and new. I've been told t his means the threads on the layshaft are damaged and that the old nut has been 'worn' in. Both old an new nuts go fine on the shock mount...

I third a thread file but this made not the slightest difference other than it wore the file out.

In the end, I'll replace the layshaft next time the engine is stripped.

That's actually a very reasonable explanation.
I did buy a new layshaft but since the original seemed to be in a good shape I reused it instead. Will try the new nut on the layshaft and shock mount. My nut catches on but stops after half a turn.

Thank you

I connected the wires. Not as easy task, I'm barely capable of reading electronic schemes, any less connecting one part to the other. Took me a while before I had all the wires done. All the extra cables I ordered seemed like a good idea then but now only complicated things :D

There is supposedly an earth cable going to the flywheel cowling. Just don't know which. Don't have any left from stator :)

And behold folks! The Lambretta kicks into life for the first tune since 1986.
This is my first ever attempt for a scooter and engine rebuild.
