reparing a flywheel

got a ducati af light fly wheel ...is it worth trying to weld on some fins to replace broken ones or will the power of the welder f@@k the magnets ? oppinions please..........

It is a shame that the fins are both on the same side, because I have heard people say that if a couple of fins are missing, leave well alone.

I bought a finless AF flywheel off Hippy Jerry a few years back and fitted a plastic flywheel from Beedspeed. It was a bit of a faff to fit to ensure that it was sound, but it worked well. It would still be on there, but I picked up another one with a full set of fins at Wicksteed for £35. :shock:

bash some off at the oposite side to balance it up!!!!! dont put heat on it!

Its designed for cooling so less fins meens less cooling :fb:

i had a fin popped back on my original electronic flywheel by tig a few years ago, its been fine

that kind of answers my question ..i was conserned that tigging it would wreck it

didn't some tuners remove odd fins to "aid" cooling? think it was taffspeed and something to do with the covers they used.
I could be wrong, wouldn't be unusual but i wont lose any sleep over it

yes but you can get the weight down quite a bit and the fins are nylon which means 'flexy'.
