Were there frame numbers that identified silver and golden specials, or were they just classed as Li Specials?

no specific frame numbers allocated to either "Golden" or "Silver" Specials.- All had "LIS" as the prefix.

In fact, Silver Specials were produced way before they were actually called "Silver" Specials, simply by being produced in a Silver colour.

"true" Silver Specials should exhibit a "Silver" badge above the "Special" L/Shield badge as should "Golden" Specials with a "Golden" badge

"Ordinary" Specials were also called "Pacemakers" although I believe this was specific to GB

Confused?

..............then of course are the different gearboxes allocated to the "Special" and the "Pacemaker" which is another can of worms and urban myths (or possibly not......)

Go on then; what was the difference between the gearbox's? I wasn't aware there was one. Except that the earlier box had a weak third. Can opened. :D

Nor was I, I thought that it was simply a marketing exercise and the only differences were the badge and maybe panel paint applied by Lambretta Concessionaires.

There are 4 different Li Special gearboxes, but the first 3 run the same "Special" ratios and the last was the same as SX150/GP150
