whilst i wait on a multimeter arriving looking for some feedback as to what this might be. the stator plate is only 200 miles old, popped a new cdi in, still no spark, could it be the regulator box?

No, the regulator is used for your lighting circuit and is separate from your LT coil & circuit
Turn On, Tune In, Cop out!
....put green from stater to bare metal/earth on frame.....kick engine over with plug out ignition on & see if you get sparks from green wire......
