When (approx) did Innocenti change the gearbox endplate from non-ramp to ramp type?
Did the change affect all models?
Which is best?

Hi Andy- I'm back from Deaths Door, so...............

I understand the gearbox end plate was changed either at the start of SX production or very shortly after.

The earlier ones had a seperate "ramp" for the kickstart mechanism on the crankcase cover itself, and the later ones had a similar system incorporated into the back plate.

As to which is best, I favour the earlier system because:-

1) you can adjust the moment when the K/s ratchet engages
2) Any loading from the kickstart mechanism is transfered to the crankcase itself, rather than imposing additional load on the gearbox end plate.

You can retrofit an earlier type to a later type and vice versa

You can convert them from later to the older type :-

But it's a one-way alteration.
