i have been helping a friend here in france with his new engine fitted with a mugello 225, variotronic, and jetex 24mm, sito ancilloti.
i have built a couple of engines with a casa and racetour kits (very happy with both) i have used pwk carbs and bgm ignition with agusto, but know very little about his set up
i feel the jetex should go, i think he will go for a dellorto 26mm+ , the variotronic i will check up on but the squish is 2.5 - 3mm , by checking with solder through plug hole, which seems a lot, it's still being run in but after 1/2 throttle it's got nothing to offer...completely flat.
anyone got much experience with these kits / set up, he's not after a screamer just a reliable, smooth, torquey ride
mugello 225 squish

squish seems very wrong 1.0 - 1.5mm I'd have said. Are you using a head gasket? If so... junk it and use a thin layer of silicon sealant.

yep, he has a head gasket 1 -1.5 mm i'd say, i told him to contact cambridge lambretta as they seem to do a lot with mugello kits but said i'd put a note on here also, i said it should be ok tottering about running in until we have time to take it apart in a week or two
Yes get the squish to 1.5 mm for a road use bike 1mm is a bit tight . When you have done that get it set up properly on a dyno by a scooter specialist - you will be glad you did

Are you sure that you've got the correct head for it? My 225 Muggy is about 4 years old but the head sits inside the barrel by about 1 mm. I don't use a head gasket just Blue hylomer gasket sealant. Got the squish to about 1.4 mm. Squish as high as 2.5 will lead to overheating problems.
i think it must be the correct head, 1. it was set up by a dealer originally and 2. it has 7 head bolts, four in the usual place and three locating bolts, i think this is a pretty new version, it's the first one of seen so the reason for the questions, my racetour also has a recessed head, i'm not sure about this one as it was already put together when i saw it, but the head gasket is quite thick for sure, by the way corrado what carb / exhaust set up do you use with yours?
thanks guys for the replies so far as usual a great help,
i'll ask what the reply from cam lam is also

Did you buy the kit from Cam-Lam?

Not the same as mine then, I think mine is a version one, it has a Reaper tuned 10.5 : 1 comp ratio head. Was thinking of changing to 60mm crank and using a std Rapido / TS1 / RB head that isn't recessed to bring down the comp ratio but it's running fine so far so best left alone.minotaur wrote:i think it must be the correct head, 1. it was set up by a dealer originally and 2. it has 7 head bolts, four in the usual place and three locating bolts,

I'm using a Mikuni TM 24 with an AF Clubman, jetting is fine above half throttle but boggy below that so need to try some leaner atomisers. Gonna ditch the Clubman as it's a poor fit and I like the dynos that have been posted for the Adspeed road / tour pipe with the Muggy 225. People had said it's a thirsty kit but that's not so with the 24 Mikuni. Also planning to fit an M-tech advance retard unit too.

I asked at Cam Lam for advice regarding my Mugello kit, (which I bought elsewhere) and they didn't want to know about me(I can understand) , but I even bought a bunch of Mugello gaskets and still wouldn't help me out..
Be warned...
Shame tho, giving out non-biased advice makes a good dealer..
