Hi folks,
I'm in the process of stripping down my jet200 engine and found these cracks/cast markings in the gearbox area.
Should i worry about those cracks? Need to weld before rebuild?
Thanks

Assuming the cracks do not go all the way through the casting, I would imagine they will continue to creep with the stresses the casing would be under, over time. I'm afraid it's a welding job or a new casing. If welded, the crack would need to be ground out to create a V shape, and a good TIG welder to carry out the repair.

the cracks do not go all the way through the casing and it's the first time the engine has been taken apart since it left the factory in 1979. It had approx 500 miles when i bought it and i hardly did 200 with it before stripping it.

Are these cracks visible on the outside of the casing as well?

are you sure they are crack's a lot of cases have small amounts of flash from moulding in these places . I would rub them down with wet & dry till you cant see them ,then try a dye penetrant crack detector if they dont show up they are not cracks .
