Hi, new to this forum wondered if I could get some advise. I have a 1963 Li125 series 3. Had a problem with the engine dying when throttle opened full in 4th gear. I thought it was fuel starvation but have stripped and cleaned carb which was full in the fuel bowl. I think perhaps it may be the CDi unit or the low tension side. Not too sure how to check if these are functioning correctly and where to check. Any advise would be much appreciated. thanks

you have checked the flow rate from the tap havent you?

Can no one help the new guy..?, maybe best to try a bit of trail and error IMO, could you get hold of a spare carb or cdi and work through possible faults with donor parts from friends or club members..

When i drained the tank to check the filter it was quite slow but when I returned home with the problem tonight I stripped the carb down straight away and thye fuel bowl was full? I did strip the fuel trap when i cleaned the tank filter and all appeared to be well. Chris

Take it out until the point that you get your suspected "Fuel Starvation" issue. Full bore in 4th as you say.

At that point reach down and turn off the fuel tap.

When stopped you should easily be able to check if you are draining the floatbowl.

Eliminate that one and then we can consider the other items that it could be.

Hi ForemanBob, thanks for your post.
If I ride at a low rpm I can manage to creep home, the problem seams to be once ive travelled say half a mile up the road on full throtle the engine just shuts down. if i back off the throttle it starts to pick up and i then coax home on low rpm. It appears to be breaking down under load. i will try what you sugested but guess that when I shut the fuel off I will creep as far as I can on the fuel bowl contents.
The bike starts to shut down under load as if I was hitting the cut out switch, i have checked the wiring to this for any faults but none found.
I guess thats why i was thinking along the lines of ignition failure or fuel. Chris
