Hi I have a mb ts1 kit on my ser 2 and blew a nice hole in my piston (twice) checking everything and it seems the head is warped always had a problem with the head coming loose

now I have a taffspeed head in the shed that was for a rapido 225 will this do

or do I buy a new one and which one ?

The Rapido one should be fine as the piston size is the same, 70mm, but check you have an even squish to ensure the profile is correct for your piston crown.

Whatever you do get it profiled to match crown of piston, and get your compression down imo. Recently bought a AF head which had been profiled and material taken out of dome (24cc volume) and dowled all by JB Tuning ( courtesy of soulsurfer

) Corrected ratio 6-3-1. On standard ts1 , has made a difference in terms of tickover , starts first kick

just feels a lot better if that makes sense !!

Get one of the AF heads(with bigger gasket area) and have it re-machined for correct compresion and squish. I was having similar problems last year and this and going back to using P2 studs solved it.

the thick gasket area AF heads are great. bit of loctite either side of the gasket. P200 studs,(proper piaggio ones) and i always use the longer (cowling distance nuts) nuts. get some cylinder head distance nuts for a P200 from beedspeed or somewhere, thats what i use. never really had problems with heads coming loose, but ive used the longer nuts for years. they are only coppers to buy.

Thanks having giving a bit of time to think it over I will go for a new head as I need a new piston so might as well do bearings seals etc its a mb touring tune! I do like to buy from the same shop that does the tuning, but what piston and 60 mm crank would people recommend current set up is (was) mb touring tune, mb 58mm crank ,devtour pipe 35 mikuni af elec with augasto 7000 looking for a bit more pulling power as its a ser 2 with pav and the wife takes far to much luggage !
