SIP Speedo again!

Currently have 2 of these one for a rally and one for my PX, Both will be working next week but heres some info to be getting on with....
I have to say I still haven't tested either of the ones I've got because the Rally is still on the bench and I've only just finished modifying my headset for the px one.
Basically you have 3 plugs out of the headset. The first is for the cylinder head temp gauge. The sensor fits under the spark plug and doesn't seem to have the same issues this causes on the KOSO ones I've used on Lambrettas. The cable runs through the frame and up into the headset. This is the most difficult part of wiring it up.
This then plugs into the jack plug from the speedo.
You then have a plug for a button which switches you through 4 set up screens and also changes the screen once set up for run time, miles travelled, and total milage etc. This is on a fairly long lead which allows you to mount it in the glove box if required.
The last plug has three wires. 1 is earth, one is power for back light etc and one is for picking up revs. On bikes with only AC these wires can be joined together and linked to unswitched lights power.
Bikes with a battery can use DC to power the back light and the rest of the speedo functions when you switch on the ignition.
So thats it. The speedo by the way may not be as inaccurate as it may first seem. The data you enter is the speedo drive ratio(SIP give a chart with all the different hubs) and the circumferance of your tyre measured by you. The speedo then knows that for every turn of the cable the wheel travels X distance so should act just like a sensor on say a trailtech.
The anologue rev counter is cleverly designed to look like an anologue speedo and the speed is diplayed digitally.

Heres some pictures of my headset modified to take the speedo and then wired to a car battery to show the display.........

I think you'll agree apart from my rather slapdash finishing it does look sexual. I'll have both working next week so will report back then on how I've got on.

Interested on how the actual speedo connects. My Rally 200 has a PK fork conversion & will snap one of these up if it's plug & play.

The speedo connects in the normal way via the cable. Cable length might be an issue here I don't know but at the top end a mk1 connector must be used.
The set up requires you to enter the speedo drive ratio(provided by SIP in the instructions) and also the circumferance of your wheel.
You can measure this by marking a line on the floor and the wheel and rotating one rev or like me tape some wire to the tyre and then measuring this.

I'll measure dimensions of speedo tomorrow for all you Lambrettaisti but feel it will probably be too deep.
It may fit a smiths convertion though I don't know. Almost certtainly a custom made cable would be needed but I'm sure there are firms that do that.

Yes dimentions are exactly the same as MK1 PX and P2
