The last Thing, it's really stiff

one thing left to do before I try to start my GP250LC

I have got a very stiff clutch, that doesn't work.

I put it in gear and pull the clutch and it doesn't work at all.

I've adjusted the clutch so tight, you could stand it.

This is just about the last thing needed to sort, so I can see if I have the faintest chance of getting it running.

6 plate Camlam jobbie. All seems well when using the clutch compressor.

Bob have you got enough play between the plates/corks when you use your clutch compressor? Have you checked all your springs are located properly in the spider? Is the brass bush located properly on the clutch operating arm? Did you check that the cork ears aren't snagging on the turrets of the rear sprocket?

Yes mate.

Double checked everything and it all seems right.

Friction free cable routed the right way? Corks soaked for 24 -48 hours before fitting? Possibly too strong springs fitted? First thing is to release the cable at the rear operating arm, and check that the cable has a nice free action through the outer. IF OK that eliminates that. It's not the kickstart mechanism bearing on the top of the clutch basket? (but that shouldn't stop the clutch disengaging, but would give you clutch slip as the clutch wouldn't engage fully) If the clutch cable slips through the outer nicely, then its chaincase side off and check everything again :(

Have you tried bending the bottom clutch cork ears up a bit so the bottom cork sits lower in the sprocket giving a little more space when disengaged?

I really thought I had enough play with the clutch compressed.

Time for another look

Dig out Scootering Dec. 2007 issue no 258, good feature in there with some highlighted issues. If I ever get my scanner to work I'll send you the feature, hopefully someone will beat me to it.

Thanks Martin, looking at it now.
