I have an Italian red GP panel that I want to use but it's had a couple of yellow stripes painted on it years and years ago.

I want to take the yellow off without spending hours and hours with wet n dry. Is there another way? I seem to remember hearing about someone doing something similar with graffiti remover

Graffiti remover does work. I've used it myself, but with mixed results. It's probably best used to remove one colour and it may be difficult to remove stripes without affecting the base colour. One thing you could try is taking the top off the bottle and applying it using a fine modellers paintbrush. That might work. Good luck.

hmmmm ive been offered an li125 special,as i remember it was in its origional sky blue....an exellent rusteration!!!!when i viewd it the clown has painted over it and totally ruined the look,are you saying graffiti remover will take the top coat back off and reveal the origional paintwork again?

modelers alcohol .used to remove paint from plastic models (trains) so shoul be ok though time consuming

In my case, as it was only a couple of stripes on a panel, I used 600 and 1200 wet n dry, and then a quick spray of lacquer. Not sure I'd fancy this approach on a complete scoot mind

Yes it will. But the trouble is you need to have a very good eye and know when to stop. It's not a precise process and once the paint is loose you have to rub it off and can end up going through the original paint as well if you're not careful. Not that I've done that myself you understand.

Think there was a thread on the LCGB site a while back, think a Dutch fella used some removal 'stuff' to good effect?

Probably a good chance that the lines are rattle can applied, if so they will probably come of easily with cellulose thinners.

Good thing is that the origninal paint will be more impervious to the thinners than the rattle can.

Try a small area first to see the result...

BTW depending on how long the yellow stripes have been on the RED paint has probably faded a little withe the sun. So you might be left with RED stripes that you need to T-Cut the rest of the paint to match.
